A NEW WALMART IN PULLMAN PARK
The Walmart Supercenter opened its doors on September 13, 2014. For the first time in many years, we have convenient access to fresh affordable groceries in our own neighborhood. More importantly, Walmart created 400 jobs, and 40% of those jobs went to 9th Ward residents. Walmart's commitment was a magnet attracting additional business investment in banking, retail and manufacturing to the community. Alderman Beale worked closely with Walmart to open a branch of the Urban Partnership Bank inside the Walmart store, bringing much-needed financial services to residents of the 9th Ward. The Walmart store is only the first retailer in the Pullman Park development - subsequent phases of the project will bring a mix of various retail, restaurant, entertainment and residential development properties.
